TPS61235P: 3V to 5V current cannot exceed 1.1A

Part Number: TPS61235P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV61048, TPS63030, LMR62014, TPS61022, TPS61023

With the circuit shown cannot get more than 1.1A  (Vin=3V , Inductor is XAL7030)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  • Hello Ioannis,

Did you follow the datasheet layout guideline for your board? It's recommended to put a small ceramic capacitor close to Vout pin and GND pin.

  • Now I have and it is working !!! Thank you!!!

It was not very clear in the datasheet that it is absolutely necessary to have  a small capacitor close to Vout except the bulk capacitor.

Is it correct to assume  that it is the same for all similar type of ICs? (or at least for these TPS61022, TPS61023, TPS63030, TLV61048, LMR62014)

  • Hi Ioannis,

Yes, layout and a small capacitor close to Vout is very important for a boost converter. The bulk aluminum electrolytic capacitor has very big ESL and ESR while small package ceramic capacitor has very low ESL, ESR. This ceramic capacitor is helpful to reduce the total switching loop total parasitic inductance. Please read the App note to understand in detail.
