TPS51206: Voltage Output Issue

Part Number: TPS51206

Dear Team,

In one of the project, we are facing below issue in DDR termination supply.

Board 1 -
VDDR_REF = 13.7 mV
VDDR_VTT = 0 V
Board 2 -
VDDR_REF = 0.677 V (As expected)
VDDR_VTT = Pulsed waveform as below,

Impedance values of IC (placed in circuit condition) matches with other working boards. We have not yet isolated IC and DDR and checked.
We are suspecting any of the below anomalies,
1. Issue internal to IC
2. Issue due to assembly
a. We have tried applying heat. Board 1 remains same but in board 2 observed stable 270 mV at VDDR_VTT
3. Issue due to DDR and TPS51206 interface

Kindly let know your suggestion on points 1 and 3.
Also let know is there any assembly related issues faced with this IC earlier.

  • Hi Mohana,

    We are not aware of assembly issue of TPS51206.

    For board 1, I think the possible reason is VDDR_REF is drawing more current than the IC can supply, and cause low voltage on the IC output. In this case, VDDR_VTT output will be 0. If you can separate TPS51206 VDDR_REF output and DDR you should be able to tell.

    For board 2, it's hard to tell, there is leakage from VDDQ to VDDR_VTT on either IC side or DDR side.

    For both board 1 and board 2, you can replace the IC with a known good one to see if the issue is still present to see if the issue is from IC or rest of the circuit.

    Regards,

    Weidong

  • Hi Weidong Zhu,

    We have removed the IC and re-assembled again. It is working fine now.

    Seems to be a solder related issue.

    Thanks for your support.
