BQ27510-G3: System side integration with charger

Part Number: BQ27510-G3
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24250, BQ27532-G1, BQ27510

Hi,

I am interested in using the BQ27510-G3 but wanted to know if there was any documentation that shows a system-side integration alongside a charger device. In addition i was also wondering how the thermistor would be connected in this case, (does the voltage divider go to the TS pins of both devices?

Alternatively if I used a BQ24250 and a BQ27532-G1 for the design,  is the software-side complexity any different, or does that get equalized by the fuel gauge managing the charger?

Thanks,

Jose

  • The bq27510 will work with chargers that follow the CC/CV model. It needs to detect charge termination by monitoring the current during the constant voltage phase (it will consider the cell fully charged if the current drops below a taper current threshold and the gauge uses this to map SOC = 100% to the cells' depth of discharge under these conditions).

The gauge cannot share a thermistor directly. If you use a thermistor and connect this to the gauge, then the gauge relies on its own bias to determine temperature, hence you can't share the thermistor. However, it is possible to use the host to write temperature data (that you can obtain from the charger if that is connected to the thermistor) once a second to the gauge (see table 2-4 in the TRM).

About the bq27532 and the compatible charger: This is a two-chip solution where the gauge and the charger will work together. Once the gauge is configured, there is very little SW necessary. Basically just read gauging results.
