TPS61222-EP: TPS61222-EP Output Noise

I'm considering using the above part number boost converter, but am concerned about the output noise at low output currents. In the application, there will be two modes of operation, one at 15 uA, and the other at 150 uA.. The datasheet doesn't have much information about the output noise at these low output current levels. I can add capacitance, as required, but is there an upper limit? Any thoughts or ideas to keep the output noise as low as possible would be appreciated. I'm also trying to keep the quiescent current as low as practical. Or, is there a better choice of boost converter for the application? The Hi Rel is an advantage in the application.

Interestingly, the datasheet refers to a variable output in table 1, but it appears that this device is only available with a fixed 5 Volt output. An output voltage of 4.6 Volts would be optimal.

  • Zack - Thanks for the response. The input voltages are nominally 3.6 Volts from a Lithium "A" size cell, or 3.0 Volts from two "D" alkaline cells in series. I need to have minimal drain on either battery so as to get the longest life expectancy. I was initially looking at the TPS610996, but at the low output currents, the output noise increased substantially. A boost converter with an integral LDO would be near ideal to reduce output noise, but according to your parts selection, none of them have an output of 4.5 Volts. As far as the amount of noise, anything less than 50 mV p-p would be acceptable.
