LM3481-Q1: PSpice simulation taking too long

Part Number: LM3481-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3481

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Our customer is using the LM3481 Unencrypted PSpice Transient Model in simulating the Load Dump Transients injected to LM3481-q1. The simulation time takes very long time. Since three full days it is being running. Present status of the simulation is at 13% only. It is running in Pico seconds time step size. What do you think could be wrong?

Thanks and regards,

Art

  • Hi Art,

If the end-time of the simulation is very long, and simulation is running pico second time step size, the simulation will naturally take a long time because of the number of calculations. Additionally, if model contains a lot of non-linear devices, there may be a lot of discontinuity in the characteristics of the devices. Therefore, very small step sizes may lead the simulation to provide incorrect results/take a long time to find steady-state operation.

    Thanks,

    Richard

  • Hello Richard,

What do you think could be the reason why it's taking too long for the simulation to finish? Could there be something wrong with the model itself?

    Thanks and regards,

    Art

  • Hi Art,

One possible reason is that the schematic where the model was inserted is not correct. Can you specify the topology and share the schematic?

    Thanks,

    Richard
