TPS50601A-SP: Designing TPS50601A-SP with Webench tool

Part Number: TPS50601A-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS50601-SP

Hi team,

My customer had the following question around simulating TPS50601A-SP in Webench.

They  have correctly set the voltage divider (Rtop = 10kOhm, Rbottom = 20.3kOhm) since the ‘A’ version has a new voltage reference equal to 0.804V instead of 0.795V for the TPS50601-SP. Nevertheless, the tool tells them that their actual voltage is 1.19V instead of 1.2V.

If they try to set the bottom resistor to 19.6 kOhm, then they get 1.2V.

Meaning that the voltage reference is actually 0.795V and not 0.804V like it should be.

Is there a risk that the TPS50601A-SP model for the Webench tool is actually the same as the TPS50601-SP ?

Here is how they've computed that Rbottom should be 20.3kOhm if Rtop is 10 kOhm :

Can you please assist here!

Thanks,

Obinna.

  • HI Obinna,

I suspect that is exactly what has happened and am very surprised that this is the first we've heard from customers on this issue.  I'll follow up with WEBench team and get back with you once I have confirmation.  I'll also get and ETA for fixing the model.

    Thanks

    Christian

  • Hi Obinna,

We have updated the value of Vref in the  WEBENCH database. This fix should correct the Vout actual value to 1.2 V. The changes will reflect on ti.com in the next release cycle by end of next week.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Praveen

  • Hi Praveen,

Thanks for the response. My customer however is still wondering how to be sure that the other parameters of the model are well updated? Can you confirm that there are no parameters that would still be set to the “old” values?

Moreover, they suspect the TINA average model to have the same problem. As you can see in the picture below, running a DC analysis leads to a wrong output voltage. Can you kindly check this model as well?

    Thanks.

    Kind regards,

    Obinna.

  • Hi Obinna,

I will verify the device parameters against the datasheet. I will also look into the TINA average model. We will keep you updated on the same.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Praveen

  • Hi Obinna,

We have verified and updated the WEBENCH model parameters for TPS50601A-SP as per the datasheet. Updated Model will be available on ti.com by next WEBENCH release(Tentatively by 3rd week of May).

For average TINA model, we observe that the Vref set is 0.8V instead of 0.804V. We have requested for the model update. For immediate reference, please find the attached TINA model with updated reference voltage:

    slvmcm4.tsc

    Vout is 1.2V:
