TPS2113A: Prioritizing External 5V DC in a redundant 5V from DC and USB

Part Number: TPS2113A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2113

Hi,

We are looking to use TPS2113 to Mux two 5V supplies. One from a 5V regulator 2A and one from 5VUSB. I tried to design the circuit such that, IN1 (5V external) is prioritized and switches over to IN2 (5VUSB) when IN1 falls below 4V or VSNS < 0.8V. Also, we designed it to use the STAT pin such that the LED will turn on when the STAT pin is Hi-Z state (5V output comes from 5V USB).

I am attaching the sample schematic here. Will this work according to how I mentioned it above?

Thank you and suggestions are welcome too.

  • Hi Ramon,

Please note that for a 2A current limit, the Tj must be kept below 105C.

Your setup is good. I think you may need more input capacitance to help maintain the voltage of the rails during the loading/unloading events.

The capacitance amount is dependent on the strength of the supply and the load requirements.

    Thanks,

    Shreyas
