TPS65381A-Q1: There seems to be a difference in behavior between TPS65381-Q1 and TPS65381A-Q1 despite what is written in other threads

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65381-Q1

We have used the TPS65381-Q1 until now and have tested the new TPS65381A-Q1 by swapping it on an existing board.

With the TPS65381-Q1 the board started up autonomously,

With the TPS65381A-Q1 the board won't startup unless it's triggered with an ignition signal.

This contradicts the earlier statements I have read that the components are functional and electrical the same.

Is my observation correct or is there something else that could cause the difference?

  • Hi Thomas,

Neither TPS65381 or TPS65381A will start up unless there is a wake up source (CANWU or IGN pulled high). Are you testing this on an EVM or a different board? The EVM has a jumper (J6) that allows the user to pull the IGN pin up using the VBATP input so I think you had that jumper placed when the non-A device was on the EVM and have removed it with the A version on the board.

    Best regards,

    Layne J
