TPS82130: Unpredictable startup issue affecting radio reception - additional info

Part Number: TPS82130

Hello,

My apologies for not responding to the original thread. I have been doing some tests and have some findings.  I actually have a 2nd part I had to source as the TPs82130 is over a year lead time currently. I actually now have a Cyntec/Delta MUN12AD03-SE to compare with same u-SIP footprint.

From the questions posed in the previous thread the issue is NOT specific to the power save mode. It happens when I have the output with small load (basically just the processor and radio) or I have it running 1.5A worth of APA102 leds.  Powering up via the USB is fine but as soon as I connect a 12V power source the radio communication is sometimes killed. Sometimes it's fine and sometimes it's not and it's never it's just OK. Its either fine or there is no signal. And it never changes after startup. If it starts up OK, then it's fine until it's turned off. If it starts up with no reception then it never recovers.

Just for comparison with the EXACT same PCB I used the MUN12AD03-SE regulator and the communication is never compromised no matter how many times I cycle power.

For the foreseeable future I will have to use the MUN12AD03-SE but I want to figure out the issue with the TPS82130 as it has much wider input range and I don't want to have 2 skus.

I am having a new revision of the PCB made but I do not have any TPS82130 parts to test on this new PCB.

Any insight you might have to help me further diagnose this issue would be much appreciated.

Darren
