TPS51216: DDR4 Power Solution Consult

Hi TI expert,

  1. Can TPS51216RUKR be used to power DDR4 U-DIMM? No such content mentioned in the datasheet.
  2. What’s the max current of each output of TPS51124, is there reference design?
  3. What’s TI recommended solution or device for DDR4 supply?

 

Also, is there any materials related with DDR4 and CPU/GPU/MPU power design to recommend?

    1. Yes, TPS51216 can be used for DDR4 U-DIMM. In datasheet it's mentioned that it can power DDR4, which includes U-DIMM.

    2. Do you mean the current capability of TPS51216? For VDDQ output it will depend on the FET/Inductor selection, usually 20~30A should be ok. For VTT the max current is 2A.

    3. TPS51216/716 are similar device which can be used to power DDR4. TPS54116-Q1 has integrated FET which can be used as DDR4 power solution as well.

    DDR4 power usually is independent of CPU/GPU/MPU solution. If you need higher power for DDR4 solution (>30A for VDDQ), you can select TI's multiphase solution (TPS53658/TPS53659 + Power stage).

    1. I didn't find the content in TPS51216 datasheet that show it can power DDR4. Could you tell me which page to find the content?

    2. Can TPS51116 be applied to supply DDR4 power?

    TPS51116 can power DDR4 as well.

    We knew the product folder information before, but since no guide or detailed content in datasheet of TPS51216, customer is not sure about whether it can be applied to supply DDR4.

    Maybe our datasheet should be modified and add new application diagram.
