UCD90160A: "Output off" flag at the "STATUS_WORD"

Part Number: UCD90160A

Hello,

I am having an issues with re-sequencing my board.

Most of the time the power rails at my board are properly sequenced, but some times the UDC90160A is not allowing me to re-sequence the power rails.

I noticed that when this issue occurs, the logger at the FUSION DIGITAL POWER DESIGNER GUI is indicates on the "STATUS_WORD" register "Output off" warning flag.

The FUSION DIGITAL POWER DESIGNER GUI is not letting me clear this warning flag, and only a reset to the UDC90160A is solving this problem, and allowing me to re-sequence the power rails at the board.

What is the meaning of this warning flag?

And how can I prevent this issue to occur?

Best regards,

Emanuel

  • Hello

OUT_OFF state means that all rails are not asked to turn on.

Do you use the the re-sequencing option from the fault response? have you try to set the re-sequencing to unlimited?

    Please refer the attached slides.

Also you can share the project file so that I can review to see what the problem is?

  • Hello Yihe,

    Thank you for the response.

I tried to use the re-sequencing option on configure it to  unlimited as you advice – but I still have the same issue.

I attached my project file, for your examination.

Hope u will have a solution for me.

  • Hello

In order to ensure the resequencing successfully, all resequencing rails must be below own POWER_GOOD_OFF thresholds.

If one rail is below POWER_GOOD_OFF and come backs to above POWER_GOOD threshold before other rails are below POWER_GOOD_OFF thresholds. the resequencing stops.

Could you please ensue this? how do you generate the fault to trigger the re-sequencing?

  • Hello,

I am shutting down the power of the main rail ( "5.5V_BP" at my project file) by doing so, a fault shutdown slaves is occur for all the rails in my system.

I am trying to re-sequence by powering back the main power rail (5.5V_BP), most of the time the re-sequence is working but there are few times when the re-sequencing process fails.

I notice that it fails to do so when the "Output off" warning flag is on - the flag appears when I performing the slave shutdown fault (powering off the main rail "5.5V_BP").

    Best regards,

    Emanuel

  • Hi

Do you ensure that all rails are below their POWER_GOOD_OFF thresholds before turning the main power rail(5.5V_BP) back?

The OUTPUT_OFF means that none rails are on.

How about the 3V3_BP power? this rail shall never be off since it is not part of the fault shutdown slave of the 5.5V_BP?

If 3V3_BP is never off, the OUTPUT_OFF flag shall not be set.

    Could you also check it?

Somehow in your project file, the 3V3_BP is set as fault shutdown slaves of itself. I had modified the project file to fix this.

I also set the resequencing to unlimited and the delay of resequencing to 20ms.

  • Hello,

I am ensure that all the power rails are are in POWER_GOOD_OFF state, except of 3.3V_BP rail.

The 3.3V_BP is the power rail that powering the UDC90160A  so it stays ON all times.

I am not sure that the 3.3V_BP rail need to have to shutdown slaves, since its also the power rail for the sequencer, what do you think?

I will check your version and let you know .

    Best regards

    Emanuel

  • HI

If 3.3V_BP stays On all ways, you shall not see OUTPUT_OFF set.

3.3V_BP rail is not controlled by UCD90160A. so device can not turn it off physically. but from the logic point view, at some point devices think 3.3V_BP rail is off so that the OUTPUT_OFF bit is set.
