TPS61175 Inductor

Hi,

i'm developing a boost converter using the TPS61175.

My project is based on the TPS61175EVM-326.

The EVM uses a inductor (part number CDRH105RNP-220N) from Sumida Inc.

I'm with dificulties to find this model to buy, but I found the part number CDRH104RNP-220NC.

It is very similiar, but the DC resistance is a bit higher.

My Vin is between 3 - 12V and Vout = 12.

Could I use the CDRH104RNP instead of CDRH105RNP smoothly?

  • As the datasheet explains on page 12 and with equations 4 and 5, you should select the inductor's inductance value and saturation current for your specific output power (both output voltage and maximum load current) as well as minimum input voltage.  22uH may work for your application but the 104 has lower saturation current than the 105.  So, at Vin=3V, you should confirm that the IC, with its 3A current limit, can provide your application's maximum load current.   If the maximum input current required for your application is below the 104's saturation current, then it may be okay.  TI's SwitchPro tool might be helpful.

  • Per Jeff's reply, the datasheet will provide guidance on the required inductance and saturation current rating.  It might be a good idea if you worked directly with an inductor vendor to select one of their specific products that meet these requirements.  The inductor vendor will be able to help you with the nuances of inductor selection.
