Hi Team,
Can you tell me what the start-up current requirement for the LMZ10500 is? I am trying to see if it feasible to use the TPS7A1601which outputs max current 100mA with the LMZ10500.
Thanks for the help.
Alex

Hello Alex,
The startup input current to the LMZ10500 (or any other regulator) will vary with the input voltage, output voltage, load settings and input/output capacitance.
Could you please provide the input and output voltage conditions and the output load current you are considering?
Regards,
Denislav
Hi Denislav,
The input voltage will be 5V from the TPS7A1601 and the output of the LMZ10500 would be 3.3V with 200mA out.
Thanks,
Alex
Hello Alex,
Thank you for these specifications.
With 5V input, 3.3V and 200mA load, assuming ideal converter, the input current will be 3.3V / 5V x 0.2A = 0.132A. Assuming ~92% efficiency on the converter, this results in 0.143A of steady state input current. It looks like the LDO (100mA max) won't be able to support this steady state current.
Also, here is a measurement of the input current during startup with two cases:
Case 1: toggling VIN from 0V to 5V.
Case 2: Toggling EN, with VIN sitting at 5V.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Denislav
