tps62420evm-167 problem with USB interface adapter

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62420

Hello, when I open the tps62420evm eval software, I get the following:

after selecting "ok",

After selecting "yes,"

After selecting "ok,"

The "device is NOT operational" if I do not perform the firmware update, but when I try I get an error.  It's likely that the device firmware is ok, as I just rec'd it from TI, and don't think they would ship something that far out of rev.  It's more likely that my PC does not recognize the adapter.

Does anyone have experience with this?  Is there something that I need to do?  The green LED next to where the USB is connected is illuminated.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Al

  • This is an error message informing you that the reprogramming of the flash was not successful.  I would recommend that you try a different USB port, different PC, or restart the PC you were using.  If it still doesn't work, you can contact the eStore and ask for a replacement adaptor.  The actual TPS62420 EVM is likely fine.

  • Thanks Chris,

I tried a different PC with a different adaptor (I purchased two), and got the same result--though I did not try to reprogram the flash with the new adaptor.  Is the firmware actually that far out of rev, or is the message about it needing to be updated just a canned message?  I suspect that the problem isn't with the flash, but my PC communicating with the adaptor. Is it possible that my PCs need something loaded (driver. . .) to work with the adaptor?  I have the EVM powered and connected to the adaptor, but is it that necessary?  Does the green LED on the adaptor indicate that the connection is ok, or just that the adaptor has power?  I'll have our IT guy take a look, but is there anything that you could recommend?

    Thanks again,

    Al

  • Yes, it's possible the firmware on your adaptor is that old.  It's unknown how long the EVM kit your received sat on the shelf before being shipped.

I would try reprogramming each of them on different PCs.  It's a pretty minimal set of hardware requirements that you need: XP, .NET 2.0, 10 MB hard drive space, 512 MB RAM.

The green light just shows that the adaptor has power.

You don't need to connect the EVM for the adaptor firmware to update.  You should just be able to plug it into the USB port and open the EVM SW.  This should trigger any needed firmware updates.  You might also try re-downloading the software from the EVM product folder at ti.com.

  • Sorry for not responding sooner.  I was able to update the firmware using the website download instead of the cd.  Unfortunately, the gui only recognized that the eval board was connected for one day.  After that, I kept getting a message that the device wasn't connected.  I then decided to use the on-board reistors to change output voltage.

    Thank you for your assistance.
