Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2019

Dear Sir,

The Bq28550 is for 1s can i use the same for the 2s. And i am also using the BQ2019 for the POS Application. Can Bq28550 used for the POS application.

Thnx n Regards

  • Tanvi,

There are several things to consider before making your descision on which part to use. For starters, the bq2019 is a battery IC monitor which basically coulomb counts but doesn't give back info on the state of the battery. Inorder words you will need to come up with an algoritm on your processor to determine the battery's state based on the coulomb counter information from the bq2019. This leads to the question of do you need a battery monitor or a gas gauge. The bq28550 and  bq27xxx family are newer devices that are gas guages based on the coulomb counting algorithm. These provide your host processor with info needed for power management functions and battery information to the end-user.  Another thing to consider is the requirement of a  system side or pack side guage. If you will be using 2s packs our multi-cell guages such as the bq20zXX and bq34x100 might be worth considering. These implements our impedance track algorithm that is more accurate than the CEDV algorithm implemented in the bq28550 which is a single cell device and shouldn't be used for muti-cell applications.
