LM2576-ADJ GETTING HEATED(NO USE OF HEAT SINK)

Hi all,

  I have used LM2576-adj as voltage regulator, Input voltage-24V & O/P voltage- 12V,  input & output capacitance are 220uF/50V & 1000uF/25V.  The Load @ output is about 1.8A. The inductor @o/p is 220uH with proper interfacing of Schotky diode.  

--The Problem is LM2576 gets heated very quickly & approx temprature becomes more than 100 degree celcius within few minutes.  pls let me know how we can make the temprature under control. i have made all the right calculation according to the datasheet.  pls let me know if u want any other information from me .

    Please refer to power dissipation drawing [Figure 18 - Page 10]. You can see that power dissipation and thermal rise is quite high. This is due to the switcher topology which does not saturate. You may consider a newer type of device such as LM2676-12 which is a third generation Simple Switcher. Additionally please use Webench as your design resource. It will design the complete schematic/architecture based on your application.

      As i have reffered the power dissipation of drawing in datasheet, the dissipation is about 1W & noramal ambient temp for my load. i think the switching topology fails & IC does not work as switcher.  May i know the reason that why @0.8 A Load it's juction temprature becomes more than the specified value.   

       I have also used Webench, but it is not showing LM2576-adj as it's design source for my input & output requirements(this IC option not available).  The problem for using LM2676-12 is that it's footprint is not compatible with my design.(design already done for LM2576-adj).

    Pls help me out for finding proper solution.
