Using no clean paste on TPS62230

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62230

Is there any issue using no-clean flux with the TPS62230.

  • I've never seen this question for any device before, so my guess is no.  I would think that many customers are using this.

As well, the TPS62230 might be a better one for this as the FB resistors are internal.  I believe a possible issue with flux residue is that it makes parasitic paths across components.  This is particularly a problem on the FB network, which might use resistors in the 1M Ohm region.  Then, the flux decreases the resistance by being in parallel and the output voltage is wrong.  This is not an issue for the TPS62230 as those resistors are internal.

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks for the quick response.  I will pass this information along.  Do we have a document outlining ideal reflow recommendations for the TPS62230?

  • Thanks for jogging my memory!  This app note on the product page is a great resource for assembly of these QFN-type packages: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua271a/slua271a.pdf
