LM1117 / Thermal shutdown temperature, TSD

The datasheet does not give a specific value for thermal shutdown temp, though, I would expect it to be above the absolute maximum thermal limit of the device itself. For this reason, I would not recommend operating the device until it reaches thermal shutdown, as this may reduce the life of the device if done often. Thermal shutdown is there to provide immediate protection if necessary. I recommend you design the system to keep the junction temp below the absolute maximum ratings of the device.
