Hi,

I am using bq2050 in my project to display battery capacity. My battery size is 3200mah.

I have connected 0.1uf capacitor to RBI pin which doesnt discharge on removal of battery. So we discharge it via external resistor to reset the ic.

PROG1=L, PROG2=L, PROG3=H, PROG4=L(PFC=22528) this is the setting we did.I follow this process,

Connect the new battery.
reset the ic via software.
Charge it to full.
Then discharge to full.
Discharge RBI capacitor via external resistance.
Charge the battery again.
Check the register values.

My problem is after this sequence my CI flag is remaining SET. Ideally it should be reset. Also NACH = LMD =PFC is observed.

Can you please help me where I am going wrong?

I forgot to mention in 4th point discharge it to full means below set EDV1 till battery reaches to 0V

Abhinav,

The CI flag is set when the gauge is reset, so I would expect it to be set after step 5 in your procedure. It does not get reset until a full and qualified discharge has occurred where FCC is updated. It should reset, after you discharge the pack again.

Thank you for the reply. I skipped step 5 this time and tried same problem occurred again.LMD value is equal to set PFC after discharge from start till edv1. Can you please let me know what quality discharge is? I am discharging it with 25ohms resistor without disturbance. Am I right in this case? Also I am trying on old battery can this be the reason?

I qualified discharge is one where the pack is discharged from full to empty without any interruptions. I do not work with this device very often, so I will review the datasheet to see if I can determine why the update is not occurring. One point to clarify on a previous statement. You mentioned that you discharged to 0V. Did you mean that you discharged to the EDVF voltage or 0V? Discharging to 0V is not a valid use case that is supported by the device.

Also to inform you on resetting the IC following things are observed
NACH=LMD
NACL=0
Is this correct scenerio?

CACH: 87
NACH: 87
NACL: 164
NAC: 22436
LMD: 88
is this also correct?
