TPS62170 death of high voltage input

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62170, TPS62170EVM-627, TPS62175

Hello,

I'm having series problem with high voltage input(15V~) of  the TPS61270

When I supplied more than 15V to TPS62170, the TPS62170 was died.

I should use wide voltage input ranage up to 17V for my application.

up to 14V was OK, but more than 15V was died.

Test board and method are as follows.

Test Board: TI TPS62170EVM-627 and my application board

Supply voltage input method:

Do not connect the power cable between OUTPUT of power supplier and VIN of EVM in advance.

After change the input voltage level of EVM by power supplier, connect the power cable to VIN of EVM.

And repeat the connection and disconnection between output of power supplier and VIN of EVM as if pysical switch turn on and off.

[EVM condition]

When C5 68uF capacitor was removed, couldnot endure more than 15V high voltage input.

When only C5 68uF capacitor was existed, could endure mre than 15 high voltage input.

As I see it, it looks like that internal FET was burnt in TPS62170. 0ohm measured between VIN and SW pin.

According to the TSP62170 datasheet, 10uF input capacitor will be sufficient and recommended. and voltag input is 3V to 17V.

Why do you use 68uF input capacitor on the EVM? for preventing this kind of issue?

Actually, my application cannot use high volume 68uF capacitor due to very tiny space limitation even though this is the solution.

What is the best solution to solve this problem?

This is very urgent and serious issues for me.

Please give your advice to solve this matter.

Thanks.
