BQ25060: Some issues when connecting/disconnecting the battery

Part Number: BQ25060

Hi team,

we are working with a ctm experiencing some issues while using our BQ25060.

They’re using it in a project under evaluation/characterization. Here below ctm comments :

“..BQ25060 stays in a system using a primary supply (connected to BQ25060 input among others) and a Li-Ion secondary battery.

This battery is connected to BAT and TS pins of BQ25060.

The part is used with Power Path, and charging phase is monitored through !CHG and BGATE pins.

During charging phase, for testing purposes we disconnect secondary battery.

IF we disconnect only positive terminal (the one connected to BAT pin), the charger still behaves as he has to charge the battery, so driving !CHG and BGATE pins to low logical states.

This happens until we disconnect also the NTC cable from the battery (the one connected to pin#5 of BQ25060)

Questions :

a) the charger doesn’t monitor the BAT voltage to verify if the battery is connected or not?

b) Charger should not enter in precharge mode (VBAT<2.9V)?

c) is NTC connection detection prevalent vs battery positive terminal connection?

d) we don’t see BGATE characterization on datasheet. Would it be possible to get some data about in case?

e) we see a Vsleep comparator on datasheet, but isn’t clear what is this referred to, and what Vsleep indicates

f) we experienced following working behavior : we turn on our custom board ONLY with primary supply line, then we connect the battery (i.e. TS and VBAT).

In this case, the BQ25060 doesn’t charge the battery, despite the fact BGATE changes the logical status as he’s willing to start charging.

Is this turn on procedure perhaps not compliant with BQ25060, then to be avoided? ..”

Thanks in advance for kind suggestions/comments, my best regards
