PMP8921: Why do we need 2 boost converters in this reference design ?

Part Number: PMP8921
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63061, TPS43061

Hi,

I am looking at the reference design at . I am not able to understand why we need two boost convertors in the above design. TPS43061   and  TPS63061  both can be used as boost convertor. So why not use one single chip? Sorry for a basic question , but I am a newbie in this.

Thanks,

Ankit

  • TPS43061 requires at least 4.5V at the VIN pin to operate. The TPS63061 is a small boost helping to boost the 3V battery voltage to 5V for the VIN pin of the TPS43061, therefore to enable the circuit to operate with a single Li-Ion cell.
