TPS7A69-Q1: Input Capacitor

Part Number: TPS7A69-Q1

Hello,

About input capacitor, TPS7A6950-Q1 datasheet page 17 explains as follows.

But, Figure 22. Typical Application Schematic use 1uF input capacitor.

< Page 17 >

8.2.1.2.1 Input Capacitor

The typical recommended value for the decoupling capacitor is 10 µF.

I understand that input capacitance requirement depend on pattern length (impedance) between input power supply and load transient.

Please advise if there is any other concern when I use 1uF input capacitor.

Best Regards.

  • Hi Toshio,

Yes, the most important thing is that the input impedance is low to keep load transients from causing the input voltage to droop. One other thing to consider is the inrush current during startup. If the output capacitor is much larger than the input capacitor and the input impedance isn't adequately low, then the input voltage could droop significantly during startup.
