TPS40303: About TI PWM IC Source Capability and Sink Capability

Part Number: TPS40303

Hi Team,

May I know source capability and sink capability of TPS40303?

How to do select TI device to replace ANPEC device?

  • Hi Wen ,

    You can use below table from the datasheet to estimate the Peak drive source /sink current .

    To calculate  the peak drive  current  , use  the nominal rise time for the output driver voltage.

    Ipeak=Cdv/dt

    where C=5nF dV=6V(Vbp-Driver voltage) dt= rise time/fall time .

    ----Ambreesh

  • I think Ambreesh's answer is correct if you are asking about the gate driver capability.

    But if you are asking about source and sink current capability as available at the output of the dc-dc converter apllication, I would suggest a reverse biased Schottky diode across both the upper and lower MOSFETs. Remember, if the output of the supply is in a mode where it is sinking current the stage acts as a synchronous boost and the input voltage can rise until the device reaches a destructive level. Fortunately, If the section of the system that is causing the stage to sink current is drawing current from the same source as this stage, the boost to Vin will not be an issue.
