TPS40422: Current value in two phase mode

Hello, we are using the TPS40422 in two-phase mode.

We are wondering wether the current values we read (on the first channel, the only accessible by I2C) correspond to the current on one phase or on the 2-phases. i.e. half the total current, or the total current.

Would you also confirm that the same convention is used regarding the programmed thresholds of the paged registers such as IOUT_OC_FAULT_LIMIT etc…?

Hi Pol,

The current readout and IOUT_OC_FAULT_LIMIT correspond to one phase.

In 2phase mode, the IOUT_OC_FAULT_LIMIT of ch1 is used for both ch1 and ch2.

TI FUSION->Monitor->System Dashboard, both ch1 and ch2 can be monitored at the same time.

Just to clarify, In two phase mode, does “READ_IOUT” return half the total current or the total current ?

Hi Pol,

READ_IOUT return the phase current.
The total current is the sum of READ_IOUT of ch1 and READ_IOUT of ch2.

If the current balance between two channels are perfect, then your statement is true, READ_IOUT of any channel is half of the total current.

Actually, in two phase mode, we find it impossible to READ_IOUT of channel 2, the chip returns an error !
