TPS23861: Inquiry about operation method.

Part Number: TPS23861
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP20199, TPS2378EVM-105

Dear TI,

I made the board by referring to PMP20199 data.

Is there a way to operate without PD connected to measure EMI?

The reason for this is to see the pure EMI characteristics of my board.

Thank you.

  • Hi BJ,

Do you basically just want to keep the port on without a PD connected? I think you can connect a resistor(<425mA) on the PSE port, switch the device in manual mode(0x12), enable DC disconnect(0x13), force the port on(0x19). Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny

  • Hi Penny,
Thank you for your attention and support.
Yes. You are right. I want to operate the PSE without connecting the PD.
My product is Power Injector. The Power Injector product does not have an MCU.
I can not regulate the registers as you tell me.
Is there a way to set it by hardware?
    Thank you.

  • Hi BJ,

I got your point. Then the next best option would be to use a PD only EVM(no DCDC converter) and connect a resistor load to the PD(the current should not exceed 425mA). The PD EVM would take care of the detection and classification and then the PD's internal FET will turn on to pass the 48V directly to the load. TPS2378EVM-105 should be a good one for you. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny
