BQ77PL900EVM-001: Role for some parts on EVM board.

Part Number: BQ77PL900EVM-001

Hello, Team

My customer asked what is the role of C16 and C18 in the circuit.

I think C16 and C18 are snubber circuits for MOSFETs(Charge and Discharge FET).

Is that correct?

And he asked why C36 and C37 are connected in parallel.

Please check and answer.

Thank you

  • Hi Charles,
C16 and C18 are ESD bypass capacitors for the FETs so that there is a high frequency path back to the cells. These are in series so that if one were to short (single fault) it would not bypass the FETs.
C36 and C37 are also ESD bypass caps for a high frequency path between the PACK terminals. They are also connected in series again so that a fault on one would not short the pack. Of course the EVM has the capacitor group C26 to C35 for transient suppression and any single fault could short the PACK output.
  • Thank you!
