TPS61081: Minimum ON time

Hi,

We got a question from the customer about TPS61081.
Could you help us?

They are considering using TPS61081 under the following condition.

 Vin=3.0V to 4.3V(1cell Li-ion) or 4.7V(ADP)
 Vout=4.5V
 Iout=30mA(typ),500mA(peak)
 L=4.7uH

- They need non pulse skip operation at this condition. How much is the minimum ON time of this device? They are thinking 4.3V input voltage is tough condition.
- If the input voltage is from ADP, they need pass-through operation(the output voltage follows input voltage). Can the IC operate pass-through operation?

  • TPS61081 is not fit for this application, it has maximum output cap and startup current limit.

    Suggest you use TPS61170. And what is the project schedule? We also have a new part TPS61022, it will be RTMed in the middle of 2018.it is just fit for your application.

  • Hi, Thank you for your reply. We want the information of TPS61022. So we will contact you by e-mail. By the way, could you tell us the detail why TPS61081 is not fit for their application? We also considered TPS61170, but we figure the current limit might not meet at 500mA peak load current.

  • For the TPS61081, there's a maximum output cap limit, the Cout should be lower than 30uF. If the Cout>30uF, TPS61081 willl fail to startup even at no load condition. Other part like TPS61170 no such limit.
