LMR23630: Power consumption and efficiency optimization at light load

Part Number: LMR23630

Dear E2E Community,

My customer is testing our DC/DC through the LMR23630EVM.

The design constaints are low cost, small size, high efficiency for few mA output, 8V to 36Vmax --> 3.7V@2Apic (GPS/GPRS supply).

He measured 1.06mA on the input current consumption (Iin), for a 12Vin, 3.7Vout@2.7mA, at 400Khz.

We are in PFM mode as expected (double checked through the SW pin signal).

Question:

What are your comments/recommendations to help on the overall power consumption of out LMR on that PFM mode? the goal is to reach ~0.65mA for the input current consumption (Iin).

Regards,

  • Hello,
From your description i would think that reaching desired input current (~650uA) will be pretty challenging.

Here are couple of things that could be tried in order to minimize current draw:
    1. If external SYNC is not used, remove resistors R2 and R4 and replace R2 with 0 Ohm resistor. In essence connect EN pin directly to VIN
    2. replace R7 with R7=88.7kOhm and calculate R11 to get desired output voltage

    I hope this helps.
    Best regards
    Brani
