Hello,

I am developing a motor controller using the CSD18540Q5B and DRV8701PRGER gate driver. I happen to notice that there is a short across CSD18540Q5B with an open gate (DRV8701PRGER not installed). I believe this is probably to be expected. Should my design include a pulldown resistor on the gate as an added precaution?

I spoke with our apps team and they said a floating gate on the FET can cause all sorts of problems so having a bleeding resistor from gate to source is a best practice.

Is there a particular "one size fits all" value for the resistor, or is there a formula?

The response from apps:

"Use 10kohm gate-to-source for all the FETs in the inverter. Some of the older DRV83xx don’t have integrated bleeder Resister for Gate pull-down."
