TPS3897: for 0.5V sensing

Part Number: TPS3897
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3895, TPS3808

Hi,

We got a question from the customer about TPS3897.
Could you help us?

[Question]
Can the IC meet 0.5V sensing which the sense voltage connects to SENSE pin directly? According to datasheet, the IC is recommended to "above 0.5V using an external resistors". Which meaning is this to, "not less than 0.5V" or "greater than 0.5V"?

If this IC can't meet to this application, is there any recommneded IC?

Best Regards,
tateo

  • Tateo,

TPS3895 has sense threshold of 0.5V typical (0.495V MIN, 0.505V MAX).

TPS3808G01 (the G01 is the adjustable version) has sense voltage of 0.405V typical so maybe this is better? What threshold do you want to sense exactly? If 0.5V, I would recommend TPS3895. If less than 0.5V, I would recommend TPS3808. If greater than 0.5V, then there are lots of options available. Please let me know the exact threshold you are looking for. Thanks!

  • Thank you for your quick reply. They need following function.

    Target threshold voltage: 0.5V typ
    Open Drian
    Active High
    Small delay time
    Small PKG

As you mentioned, we figure TPS397P can meet for thier requirement. So please let me confirm one thing.
Can the IC connect SENSE pin to system voltage diretly?

    Best Regards,
    tateo

  • Tateo,

Yes, Sense pin can connect directly to system voltage. You can even add small 0.1uF capacitor on the sense line to make the sensing less affected by noise.
