TPS92310: 180 -500 VAC LED driver

Part Number: TPS92310
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3447, UCC28810, LM3445

Hi

My customer looking for  led driver DC flyback topology for Wide input AC voltage range operation (180 -500 VAC) ?
Or can you suggest me any technique which cause we can clamp higher ac voltage ?

Thanks

Star

  • Hello Star,

I will forward this to our AC-DC expert. You should get a response after the weekend.

  • Hello Star,

I'm not sure what you mean by 'clamp higher ac voltage'.  A flyback can be designed to run from that input range, the components need to be selected correct to make sure it can handle the high input voltage, 500 VAC at the peak is 707 volts.  Add the flyback voltage to this (say 200 volts or so) and the MOSFET will see 907 volts not including overshoot from leakage and input surge.  I would expect to use something like a 1500 VDS rated MOSFET (higher if needed or lower if possible).  One hard part will be the creepage and clearance if this needs to meet safety regulations, this includes primary to secondary spacing, primary to earth ground if it is in this design and the transformer design.

What output voltage, current, power is this?  You'll have to chose a controller that does not have an internal MOSFET.  LM3447, LM3445, UCC28810/11 as well as others could work for this depending on your power level.
