TPS62152-Q1: Is Thermal PAD internally connected to AGND or PGND?

Part Number: TPS62152-Q1

Hello,

My customer asked question about TPS62152-Q1 whether Thermal PAD is internally connected to AGND or PGND.

Q.1) Is Thermal PAD internally connected to AGND or PGND?

In the datasheet, “AGND and PGND should be directly connected to Thermal PAD externally”, and recommended layout in Fig.37 also shows this connection.

I suppose the recommendation “AGND and PGND should be directly connected to Thermal PAD externally” is mainly coming from the thermal performance consideration.

Q.2) From EMI point of view, will it also be recommended?

Best regards,

  • AGND and PGND connections of the IC use the pins 15, 16 and 6. The exposed thermal pad is not connected to any signal and cannot be used to replace a connection to the AGND and PGND pins.
Thermal and electrical performance are reasons behind this recommendation. This includes EMI performance.
