TIDA-00558: Bidirectional DC-DC converter for regenerative braking system

Part Number: TIDA-00558

1) Scope of project:

Electric powered bicycle with regenerative braking. Implemented with a DC Brushless Gearless Hub Motor rated at 36v 500W (with permanent magnets).

2) Modes of operation:

a) Discharging mode (Boost)

Vin = 12v

Iin max = 41A

Vout = 36v

Iout max = 14A

b) Charging mode (buck)

Vin = 36v

Iin max = 14A

Vout = 12v

Iout max = 41A

During discharging mode the motor will provide propulsion for the bicycle. And in charging mode (during braking) the DC motor will recharge the battery.

3) We have the following questions:

a) We want to use the TI design TIDA-00558, Is there another design that will help us implement our idea more efficiently?

b) We noticed that TI design TIDA-00558 requires TI part TMDX28069USB but this part is no longer available (obsolete), what TI part will be the best replacement for that microcontroller package?
