LM5160A: Question about transformer in isolated supply

Part Number: LM5160A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5160, TIDA-00199

Hi everyone,

I have question about GT03-122-037-B transformer model of Ice Components, This transformer have 2 seconder as 1:2.5:2.5. I am planning to obtain 20V and -5V for driving SiC Mosfets with LM5160 through zener 20V diode but I want to combine two outputs to increase output power. Is it possible to do that ? Instead of two seconder, there will be one seconder which is isolated from primary.

Also, can I switch this transformer with LM5160 ??? I think I can do that because there are no differences with TIDA-00199 reference designs except for output voltages.

I am not good at with power supply, sorry for basic questions.

Thank you.

  • Hello Kaan,

If you intend to use the LM5160, you will need an ISAT>Ilim max of the LM5160. This means Isat needs to be greater than 2.875A, to avoid saturating the transformer. from the V-us of the selected transformer, it appears this transformer has a Isat current much lower than needed?

If you can detail your Vin min, Vin Max, Vout secondary's and max secondary currents I can then suggest the most suitable approach with the correct turns ratio.

    Thanks.

    David.
