TPS65320D-Q1: Junction temperature estimation?

Part Number: TPS65320D-Q1

Team,

Do you have an excel calculator or something to estimate junction temperature for the TPS65320D-Q1? I am trying to see if i can run the DC/DC at 7.2V/650mA and the LDO at 5V/100mA.

  • Hi Julio,

    I couldn't find a power calculator tool online, so I'm copying Frank to see if he has one.

    But you can calculate the power loss using these formulas.

    Pldo_loss = (Vin-Vout) * Iout
    Pbuck_loss = Pbuck - Pinductor - Pdiode

    where

    Pbuck = [(Vout * Iout) / Eff] - (Vout * Iout)
    Pinductor = Iout^2 * Ldcr
    Pdiode = [1 - (Vout/Vin)] * Iout * Vf (Vf = forward voltage of rectifying diode)

    Regards,
    Karl
  • Hi Julio,

    I do not have a tool either. You can find a more detailed calcualtion in datasheet Section 8.2.1.2.11 Power Dissipation.

    Please also consider that the LDO is supplied directly from VBAT in case the Buck is disabled, hence it needs to drop VBAT voltage to 5V (@100mA?).

    Best regards,

    Frank

  • Karl,Frank,

    Appreciate the help, i was just wondering if there was a quick tool but ill go ahead and estimate with the provided equations. Thanks!
