TPS61045: Increasing current capacity with mosfet

I would like to know if its safe to add an external MOSFET to the SW output of this regulator.

I have an application where i need a digitally controllable output of 5v or 12v select able. I also need about 14W of power.

I do realize the soft start and current limiting capabilities will be compromised.

What is your input voltage range? So that I can recommend a right part for you.

Hi Jackson,

You can't use an external MOS, if you want a digitally controllable output of 5v or 12v select able. You could use a boost and control FB pin.

HI Helen,

Sorry i forgot to mention. We are working off a standard 4.2v Li-Po cell. 1000mAh rated at 10C.

As the output power is 14W, so suggest u use TPS61089 in this aplication, TPS61045 only support less than 100mA output current .
