TLV760: about input capacitor 0.1uF

Part Number: TLV760
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP2992,

Hi team

Do you think the input capacitor 0.1uF is required in the attached circuit?

I hope 0.1uF is not required because board space is limited and 10uF for DCDC is already there.

I also have another option of LP2992.

Could you confirm 0.1uF is required in this case?

  • Hi Noriyuki Takahashi,

The input capacitor is used to lower the line impedance at the LDO. As long as the 10 uF cap for the DCDC is local to both the DCDC output and the LDO input you will have negligible trace inductance so the 10 uF may be enough. Please ensure that 10 uF is enough to satisfy the capacitor requirements for the DCDC + 0.1 uF, you have enough capacitance to use the single capacitor as both the output cap for the DCDC and the input cap for the LDO (again assuming that the cap is close to both the DCDC and the input pin for the LDO).

Please note that LP2992 requires a 1 uF input capacitor so if you are space constrained, TLV760 is likely your better option.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
