Hi Frank,

have you read section 8.2.2.1.3 of datasheet? The bypass cap can affect the start-up time but it is not intended to be used as a soft-start circuit.

Hi Frank,

LP3878-Adj does not have a linear startup. As such it is difficult to provide a startup equation. Which package are you using and what are your application requirements (Vin, Vout, Iout)? Perhaps we can help you select another LDO that will better fit your application.
