LMS3655: Input capacitors

Part Number: LMS3655

Dear all.

The input capacitor is written as ”The device is designed to be used with ceramic capacitors on the input of the buck regulator.” in the datasheet.
How is this a reason? ESR?
When we use different type of capacitor, what kind of specification should I be based on?

Regards,
PAN-M

  • Hi Pan,

In general you will need a ceramic capacitor for input capacitor to deliver the input required by the converter. A ceramic capacitor has lower ESR and have the benefit of resulting in a lower VIN ripple. I believe you will need at least a ceramic capacitor 2x 4.7uF, X7R, 50V for the input capacitor.

    Thanks
