BQ25890H: Charger DSEL compatibility with USB-C Audio Accessory mode

Part Number: BQ25890H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USB221, , BQ25890, BQ25895

I have a working design with a BQ25890H charger with a TS3USB221 switch at the front end. I was thinking of adding support for USB-C audio (http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00565 which would require me to have another switch in the DP/DM path, or a three port switch.  I'm worried though that trying this will screw up the BQ25890's charger detection.  Do you have any guidance on this?

Thank you

  • If the design is appropriate, it should work fine. The key is that for the first 3 seconds after the D+/D- lines are connected to the bq25890H, no other devices should be interfere with the D+/D- lines. Thanks!

  • Eric,

BQ25895 USB detection helps to find the current capability of USB ports, non-standard adaptors and DCP. The detection is done within the first 1 second after the VBUS is presented and the adaptor has a fixed voltage (not HVDCP). BQ25890H D+D- will be high-Z after the detection. If the processor is able to high-Z DP/DM for the first second, then the BQ25890H DP/DM can be connected to the DP/DM bus through a 200 ohm or below resistor on each line.

    Regards,

    Eric
