TPS61196-Q1: Pull-down resistance on EN, PWMx

Part Number: TPS61196-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61196

Hello LED Driver team,

My customers asked about the pull-down resistance on EN and PWMx of TPS61196-Q1 as following.
On the datasheet, the pull-down resistance is recommended to use 0.8Mohm/ 1.5Mohm/ 3Mohm as shown below.

Q1. Is there any problem if the 10 Kohm ~ 47 Kohm resistances are used on EN and PWMx?
Because my customers are prohibited from using 100 kohm or more by their car-OEM.

Q2. Please explain in detail why the datasheet recommend using 0.8 Mohm ~ 3 Mohm resistance on EN and PWMx.
My customers need enough explanation to persuade their car-OEM to use 10 Kohm ~ 47 Kohm resistance on EN and PWMx.

Best regards,
DY

  • Dear customer,

The EN and PWMx pull down resistor from 0.8Mohms to 3Mohms are internal pull down resistor integrated in TPS61196 for EN and PWMx pins. Customer can have 10kohm to 47kohms pull down resistor externally, if the IO current is big enough to drive 10kohms to 47kohms resistor. The reason to integrate large pull down resistor for EN and PWMx pin in TPS61196 is to minimize the driving current to EN and PWM pin in case the control IO doesn't have sufficient current output.

    Thank you,
    Xianghao
