BQ3060: questions about BQ evaluation software

Part Number: BQ3060
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50-R2,
Hi all,
It's the first time for a customer to use BQ3060PWR. he has several questions:
  1. when set up BQ evaluation software, which spec can be regulated to control "charge" and "discharge"?
  2. in calibrate page, the result is 3 cells but in real circuit is 4 cells. cell 1+2+3 =12V; cell 1+2+3+4 equals to 12V too. however in real circuit, he measured 4 input pins, the results are: VC1=15.8V; VC2=12.1V;VC3=7.8V;VC4=3.9V. Could you tell me which spec is relevant to this result?
  3. in SBS page, why the data cannot be changed? how to change them?
Thank you!!
  • Hi Yuan,

The bq3060 is not recommended for new designs. Has the customer considered using a bq40z50-R2?

    1. Please follow the steps first found in the EVM User's Manual ( www.ti.com/.../sluu342a.pdf ). Once the device is calibrated, per the instructions, Please use ChargingCurrent(0x14) to read the desired charging current in mA, as described in A.21. Please use ChargingVoltage(0x14) to reat the desired charging current in mA, as described in A.21.

The ChgM bit in BatteryMode(0x03) enables or disables the transmission of ChargingCurrent and ChargingVoltage messages to the Smart Battery Charger.

If you intend to 'control' the charge and discharge protection FETs, set the OC Chg and OC DSG Thresholds. When Current value is greater than or equal to the corresponding Threshold, CHG and/or DSG protection FETS will engage if Charge or discharge current is greater than the respective threshold for a period greater than OC Time Limit.

    2. Connect the 4 Cells as described in Section 7.1 of the EVM User's Guide. If 3 cells are to be used, follow the hookup instructions in Section 7.1 for 3 cells instead.

    3. Data is displayed in the SBS page. Data is modified in the Data Flash page.

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
