TLV1117LV: Setup the Vout of TLV1117LV

Part Number: TLV1117LV

Hi

My customer will use TLV1117LV15.
But they use this device under Vin=5V, Vout=1.8V and Iout=0.1A and they could output Vout=1.8V.
Could theyr use this device this using method?
They use TLV1117LV15 to have to use their company's proven devices.

Best regards,
Yokota
  • Hi Yokota,

TLV1117LV18 is the 1.8 V output version of the TLV1117LV family.  This is essentially the same device as TLV1117LV15 with the only difference being the regulated output voltage due to a different internal resistor divider.

Since there is no external access to the FB node (the midpoint of the internal resistor divider), there is no way to force TLV1117LV15 to regulate at a higher output voltage than the 1.5 V output that it is designed to output.  Please use TLV1117LV18 for this application.

    Very Respectfully,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan-san

    Thank you for the reply.
I'm sorry for my lack of explanation.
My customer evaluated TLV11117LV15 setup Vout=1.8V using divider resister and seeing GND terminl as Adj terminal.
    This device outputted 1.8V.
Could they use this device by that method?

    Best regards,
    Yokota
  • Hi Yokota-san,

This method is not recommended as it introduces additional sources of inaccuracy, it can degrade the performance of the device, and can potentially lead to instability. A much more robust solution is to use the TLV1117LV18 which will output the desired voltage without any additional resistors. Again it is important to note that the only difference between TLV1117LV15 and TLV1117LV15 is the internal resistor divider.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
  • Hi Ryan-san

    Thank you for the information.
    I recommend TLV117LV18.
Could you tell me the reason that TLV1117LV15 can output 1.8V by that method?

    Best regards,
    Yokota
  • Hi Yokota-san,

You are generating an artificial ground with the resistor divider. The GND pin voltage is the reference voltage for all internal rails. The TLV1117LV15 is still attempting to regulate 1.5 V with respect to its GND pin; however, since the GND pin voltage is 0.3 V rather than 0 V, the system level rail is 1.8 V with respect to the system GND (0 V).

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
