TPS62230: Component Selecting of TPS62230

Hi,

We will use TPS62233 regulator in our PCB. You now, there are three components of this regulator.
We selected 4.7uF for CIN, 4.7uF for COUT and 2.2uH for L. We did 0402 footprints on our PCB for these components. But there are components with 0805 package in regulator's datasheet as recommendation.

Which components must we use with 0402 footprint for my PCB and What are their Digikey or Mouser Links for order?

    Hi User,

    For Cin and Cout in 0402 there is plenty of options on the market.
    I would suggest the Murata GRM155R61A475MEAA, which is 10VDC rated, so that the capacitance is remains fairly high within the 5V range.

    Since the TPS62230 has a current limit of over 1A, you need an inductor that has higher Isat. So for the inductor I cannot suggest anything in 0402 that has a saturation current higher than 500mA.

    But , in 0603 footprint you can find something suitable if you go for 1uH inductor, for example Murata DFE18SAN1R0MG0L. Going for this inductor may worsen the output ripple by a small percentage, so I would suggest you to evaluate the combination first.

    What are your DC operating conditions (Vin, Vout, Iout)?

    We selected Murata GRM155R60J475ME87D for CIN and COUT. Beacuse our VIN is 3,6V and our VOUT is 2,5V. Therefore 6,3DC rated capacitor is enough for us. Murata GRM155R60J475ME87D has got 0402 footprint.

    Now we search 2.2uH inductor with 0402 footprint for regulator. I calculated ILmax. Its value is 557mA. Therefore, I must find inductor which has got saturation current higger than 557mA. It should have 0402 footprint. Can we find inductor with these features?

    Helo User,

    you may be happy with such an inductor, but the reliability of the solution will be compromised by the fact that the max current limit of the TPS62230 is 1050 mA. So I won't recommend an inductor with less than 1A Isat. Anyway, you can find 2.2u 500mA 0402 inductors on the website of the manufacturer/distributor you prefer.
