PTH05000W: Recognised removal/Installation process for PTH05000WAZ post production

Part Number: PTH05000W

Hi there,

I am a technician working for Panasonic Avionics and we have installed on some of our products the subject P/N power supply modules, we are looking for a "Practical" method of removing and replacing these modules e.g Hot air etc.

Is there any recommendations for a process that can be used.

Regards

Rob.

  • Hi Robert,

Since you've installed the part on your board I'm assuming you already have the reflow profile soldering requirements for all Plug-In Power(PIP) devices.

For removal, you should be able to use a hot air gun to remove it. Just make sure you stay within the solder reflow temperature specification based on the datasheet.

  • Hi Jimmy,

    Thank you for your response.

The boards we repair are manufactured in Japan and will obviously use different processes when installing this assemblies during production, we do not have a the same equipment, the only equipment we have is a DEN-ON RD-500S III rework machine and use of hot air stations, there are no exact sized nozzles that fit either our rework system or our hot air stations that I can find.  Is there any equipment other than what we have that can do the installation of these assemblies that you know of? without damaging the surrounding components on the board or overheating the assembly during installation, I believe I would have to get a bespoke attachment  for the DEN-ON machine, which maybe our only route to a successful installation, but I am trying all other avenues first.

So any other method of installation of this assembly that you know of "whithout spending 10(s) of thousands on equipment would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Rob.

  • Typically, during rework of these components, using a heat-plate/IR heater to heat the board from below and a hot air gun from above is the best way to remove them. Finding a similar sized air nozzle that heats all of the pins at once will make removal of the device much easier.
