TPS92410: TPS92410 and TPS92411 direct AC driver LED lighting solution

Part Number: TPS92410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92411

Hello Team,

For TPS92410 and TPS92411,

  1. Can this solution be used for universal input supply range?
  2. Can this support design up to 30W?
  3. What is max conversion efficiency achieved with this solution?
  4. What are design constraints associated with this design solution?

Regards,

Mahendra

  • Hello Mahendra,

    1)  Since it is a current regulator with series LEDs it was never intended for Universal input voltage.  It can be done but it is not a trivial design and it would not be truly universal, it would be optimised for 120 VAC and 240 VAC or other set-point chosen.

    2)  Yes, there is a 50W reference design on TI.com:

    3)  Peak efficiency at 230V using the TPS92410 was 87%, at 120 VAC it will be a little lower.  This also depends on how many channels are used.  87% is with four TPS92411 switches at 230 VAC.

    4)  Since it is a bunch of series LED stacks the window of operating voltage.  The benefit of the TPS92411 system is even if the last switch state does not get met due to low input voltage all of the LEDs are still lit.
