Using the circuit provided by Webench our prototype is not performing as expected. It was designed for a 24VDC input and a 12VDC 12Amp output. As soon as we add a load on it the Voltage drops from 12V to 10V and our input capacitors get extremely hot.

The input power supply is 1000W with no current limit. Below is the schematic of the design.

Thank you for providing the schematic above. The layout will also be very critical for this design. Can you also share the layout for this board?

Would you also be able to share a waveform of the SW node, the input, and the output during this condition?

I have the scope shots of the Input, SW, and Output. I am not sure how good these are since during the testing the input Capacitor failed. The output voltage before the smoke was let out was 6V and 16V after.

Below is the layout. There are extra parts in the layout for filtering, but they have been removed and only the parts in the Webench design remain.

Josh,

What are the voltage ratings on the capacitors? Smoke usually means over-voltage.
