LM3914: Please tell me how to respond after discontinuing production.

Part Number: LM3914
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP3944,

Hi, team.

My customer is useing "LM3914N-1/NOPB", already.

But this device will become discontinuing production when 2019/06/19.

So, please discussion about how to respond after discontinuing production.

The circuit configuration using the customer's "LM3914N-1" is as follows.

Please tell me how to realize this with another IC without changing the surrounding signal.

① Ideal: Introduction of replacement device.
② Compromise plan A: A circuit is realized by using multiple devices.
② Compromise plan B: Realized with as simple a discrete circuit as possible.

Could you help us?

Best regards,
Masumi Sekiguchi

  • Hi,

I have notified our expert regarding this topic. Expect a response by 10/9/18.

    Thanks,
    Aaron
  • Hello Sekiguchi-san,
I am not able to find a very close match that can work without changing the circuit. LP3944 is indicated as a replacement device for LM3914 and I think two of these devices can be used to achieve ten LED channels and similar configuration.
    Kind Regards,
    Liaqat
  • Hi, Liaqat-san.
    Thank you for contacting.

I understand that LP3944 is operating by receiving SMBus or I2C signal from microcomputer,
but can I use analog dimming without using these signals?
(The dimming method is as described in the submission column.)

    Best regards,
    Masumi Sekiguchi
  • Is the discontinue notice just for the DIP part? Digikey has 12k in a PLCC package (NOT a DIP) and lists it as "active", but maybe this is going away too. If you need a drop-in replacement, try

    https://www.vyrian.com

    Maybe they have some
  • OMT: The LP3944 is NOT a direct replacement.
  • Thank you for contacting.

For this case, since the production life is long for customers of industrial machinery maker, the warranty period disconcerning storage also passes even if purchased in the Last-Bye.

Therefore, please confirm whether it can cope a little device change.

    >OMT: The LP3944 is NOT a direct replacement.

    I know it.

Therefore, I hear your company whether it can cope with a little circuit or device change.

    Please tell me.

    I know that.

So, I posted that to the thread below, can it combine it with discrete using TI 's operational amplifier etc...?
