UCC5390: Sic driving circuit layout and design guide

Part Number: UCC5390

Hi,

My customer is surveying the Sic solution and considering using our driver as solution, please help to provide the design guide if there are these document.

The mainly purpose is to know if there are concerns operate at high frequency.

Please let us know where to get the design information.

thank you.

  • Hello,

For designing the UCC53x0 devices with SiC, high drive strength is required (UCC5390 or UCC5350M) to realize low switching losses. An optimized gate resistor value is needed to control ringing and can be calculated here: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slla385/slla385.pdf

The UCC53x0 family has its own short circuit protection features with integrated diodes in the output stage but if your customer is looking for more advanced short-circuit protection methods I recommend this tech note: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua863/slua863.pdf

What frequency is your customer planning to operate at? The UCC53x0 family can operate >50kHz which SiC FETs are known to work in. Frequency should not be a problem as long as the device is operated below its maximum junction temperature of 150C.
